Behind the Bestiary: 3 Reasons for 3 Ships
For the final spread of the Argent’s Bestiary, I sketched a scene of ships sailing out from a French seaside town. This was far from a random choice and here’s why:
- It was my visual way of having this Argent ancestor say to his family, “Okay, I’ve told you everything about supernatural creatures. Now go out into the world and be Argent-ey.”
- I felt there needed to be explanations for A) how the Argents could fund their Werewolf hunting pursuits, and B) how the family knew of supernatural creatures from all around the globe back in a time when traveling even 30 miles was a labor. So my headcanon was that the Argents made their fortune by being seafaring merchants and explorers with a fleet of ships.
- And finally, it’s a tribute to Teen Wolf fans who are notorious shippers of their favorite otp and brotp character combos. (Please imagine these to be whichever ships you like, because I believe in the golden shipping rule: ship and let ship.)
PS.1: I made up the succession plan for the Family Pendant as a way for it to stay within the Argent family line. (It made sense with Kate having given it to Allison. However, this presumes that Gerard and Chris are oldest sons. And now with Allison’s death, who knows who the rightful heir is….)
PS.2: That partial fingerprint in the lower left corner is mine. It’s supposed to be a sloppy “mistake”, but I like to think of it as an artist’s signature to the Bestiary.
